The purpose of their test was to see if forefoot strike have different rates of injury than runners who habitually rearfoot strike. They studied 52 runners from a collegiate cross country team. What they found was that runner’s with a rearfoot strike have almost twice the rate of injury than those who forefoot strike (a characteristic found in skilled barefoot runners).
At Black Creek, we found this article interesting to us because we carry several of lines of the barefoot style shoes such as the Vibram Fivefingers, Merrell barefoot shoes, Vivobarefoot shoes, and the Inov8 shoes. We know that this form of running can be beneficial for many, but its always good to hear that researchers are doing even more to understand this topic pertaining to running. It’s also good to hear that others are finding out about the benefits of having a forefoot running strike.
